Airwayv is proud to present a groundbreaking play cycle, each play inspired by a great American song. Written by Arthur Yorinks, the cycle unfolds in 13 original hour-long audio plays, offering a sweeping narrative of America over the past 120 years. Each play is set in a decade from 1900 to the present and is inspired by the lyrics of a great contemporaneous American song. The plays are intimate, funny, heartbreaking and gripping — as well as triumphant — and they weave compelling original drama with luminous music and A-list talent to build a stunning patchwork quilt uncovering the soul of America.
The American Song project is co-directed by Jim Simpson and was developed in a series of workshops at the Flea Theater in New York City — along with the help of Bruce Fagin and some of the finest actors and performers of our time, including Sigourney Weaver, Reg E. Cathey, Frances McDormand, Adam Driver, David Hyde Pierce, Danny Burstein, Rebecca Luker, Linda Powell, Catherine Russell and many more.
Two plays in the cycle — Iron Will (from the period 1900 to 1909) and Snow In Trees (from the period 1946 to 1949) — are available now on Airwayv. Listen for more in the coming months!
